Chrome scraps support for Windows XP, Vista and more
Along with the release of Google Chrome version 50 has come the news that support has ended for a number of older operating systems including Windows XP and Vista.
Google has been promising since November that they would end support for older operating systems such as Windows XP, Windows Vista, OS X 10.6, OS X 10.7 and OS X 10.8 and this month they followed through with that promise.
This means that users who access the Google Chrome browser on older operating systems will no longer benefit from important security updates, bug fixes and other new features. Users could also lose some functionality as features such as instant sign-in and data syncing may no longer continue to function.
If you are a user of one of these older operating systems then one option available to you is to switch to another browser that does still offers support, such as Firefox. However, this will still be vulnerable to any weaknesses in your operating system and means you won’t benefit from the added security and support that can come with upgrading your operating system.
If you have concerns about running an outdated operating system and would like help and advice on how you can upgrade to a newer version, please give ECL a call on 01268 575300 or visit our website.
